Picked this up to start a collection of black background with flowers collection, my daughter says it's for old ladies, I love it. Any help is this an antique piece or a reproduction? Thank you for any information, Lynnette

This is a very interesting set, covered bowl with dish. I think it is late 20th Chinese, and a soup bowl. The way to identify is if the lid saucer fits in the bowl, or does not and overlaps the bowl.
The tradition is to hold the rice bowl and add pieces of food to it from larger containers, with meat and vegetables. The saucer often contains a small amount of hot sauce or other Chinese condiment.
The soup bowl is set in the saucer on the table and eaten with a porcelain spoon, or if a broth, held and sipped from the rim.
I have a large modern 'famille noire' round bowl from the 80s, which also has a floral motif, and is painted black after the flowers were done. It has a red warning on the base in English that says 'not to be used for food consumption'. That was after lead was found in the paint of these pieces which is toxic. It is also crudely made, such as the linked one I have here.

I think yours could be earlier 20th, because the application of black enamel depended on the quality of the piece, and this happened all along the 20th century.
