I recently sold this sculpture but thought you might like to see it.
It was modeled and painted by Elio Schiavon for the Italian pottery company Erhart SCC, around 1960.
Schiavon made a range of these figured vases during his time at Erhart and as far as I have found out all were individual.
This man appears regal to me with his robe and leaf sceptre but I haven't any real idea what he is supposed to be. He just is.
Like much Schiavon he is quite roughly painted, naive almost, although Schiavon was a highly trained and skilled ceramicist.
This is one of those pieces I was reluctant to part with but he no longer fits with my interest and he is better with a truly appreciative owner.
Quite a large piece at around 32cm (12.5in)
