I recently sold this sculpture but thought you might like to see it.
It was modeled and painted by Elio Schiavon for the Italian pottery company Erhart SCC, around 1960.
Schiavon made a range of these figured vases during his time at Erhart and as far as I have found out all were individual.
This man appears regal to me with his robe and leaf sceptre but I haven't any real idea what he is supposed to be. He just is.
Like much Schiavon he is quite roughly painted, naive almost, although Schiavon was a highly trained and skilled ceramicist.

This is one of those pieces I was reluctant to part with but he no longer fits with my interest and he is better with a truly appreciative owner.
Quite a large piece at around 32cm (12.5in)

Remarkable sculpture Karen and very unique. I love the Picassoesque design and the man is open to interpretation - a scholar perhaps. Can see why this was a beloved piece but sometimes we have to downsize or risk overcrowding

He's great- he kinda reminds me of Saint Patrick or something? I guess it's the green and the sprig of something he's holding and his serene ancient face.

Thanks Jenni, he was hard to let go but the new owner seems very happy and I have to like that!
      Picasso does spring to mind.

You may well be right Lauren, he certainly has a certain grace to him!
Thanks so much for the love and comment.

Very cool sculptural vase and that sculpture/painting makes the vase and figure so extraordinary, it seems to come to life !~

Very unusual. Makes me think of the Green Man.
    9. racer4four racer4four, 2 years ago
Yes! That's it! The Green Man - I couldn't remember. Thanks Elanski.

You know me, I love folk art and this fits the bill. Almost Picasso like. I could still see this in your Asian collection, but, I know you'd prefer it more if it were glass!

Many things are wonderful and deserve to be kept but you know, money!
Money earns from this, more glass!!!!
