I inherited my great grandmother’s trunk and I’m trying to find out more about it. There’s no makers mark that I can find, although I’m not sure where to look. My grandmother painted the hardware, which I know decreases the value, but I’m more interested in finding out more about it if possible. I think it’s from the early 1900s based off of family lore, either purchased in New York or in France. I’m currently trying to make sure it’s properly protected by applying Renaissance Wax to it, which is why one half might appear to be a slightly darker tone.

Here are some patent image links below that may apply to this trunk.
It was a very popular model during the 1900s. Nice to see you cherish it.

I agree with Drill early 1900's, american made, if it came from France with your grandmother, it was sent there by american trunk makers, the trunk is not original, the interior has been redone and the trunk was originally covered with canvas that has been cut off and the wood finished, so you are not going to do any damage to the value of the trunk, which I'm sorry is not a lot, as for a maker this style of trunk was made by hundreds of trunk makers at the time and without a label hard to say, so do what you will and make your trunk with your grandmother in mind.

Thanks Drill, greendog! I’ll probably never find out more about it unfortunately...
