    Hello..
I'm hoping someone can help me identify this interesting find. The name stamped on the bottom, Moloney Electric Co. of Canada Limited, provided me with a lot of information; the top is a liquid-filled transformer. I'd really like to know what the piece was meant to hold. I thought it might be part of a desk set, but it seemed a bit heavy for a paper clip holder. When you lift the lid the attached chain pulls the sectioned tray up. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I’m wondering if the sectioned liftable part is meant to hold weights which would press down on some food item in placed in the bottom with the intent of pressing out air or liquid.

Is the container ceramic or metal?

      Very interesting item!

      Thanks for your response, Watchsearcher!
The top is made of a heavy metal, and the bottom is leather-covered metal (both inside and out). The sectioned tray only lifts up to the level shown, so nothing could be placed under it. While yours is an interesting concept, I don't think this treasure would be suitable for use in the kitchen (given its materials). Thanks again!

      Hello Trey.
I was able to find out what the item was representative of from the company’s website. I’m most interested now in what this treasure’s intended use was. Because of its leather covering, I’m still leaning towards it being part of an office desk set. Thanks for your input!

Knowing now that it has leather inside and out makes a huge difference. Also, now knowing that nothing can be placed under the tray is important information.
With the new data in mind, forget my initial thoughts of it being food/kitchen related.
A complete description is always helpful.

I hope you get some answers here. :-)
