I picked this set up for a couple reasons. Pretty? I suppose, but the colors are for Fall, so I’ll put it away until then. I bought it because you rarely see D & E set in gun metal, along with the dogtooth prongs, makes this set a little on the rare side. Also the earrings have “donut hole” findings, another trait more along the lines of Schreiner, not D & E. People had a real hard time wrapping their heads around D & E using ”fancy” prongs, cupcake settings, and donut hole findings, since they are Schreiner traits, but they did and here’s the proof! Look closely and you will see the figure 8’s, good as a signature!
ENJOY!
The gunmetal is perfect for the claws which almost appear to be from a time when Castles were everywhere, and Gothic metalwork was the norm. The back has wonderful figure 8 effects, the magic of D & E. The rather stark colours of amber and golden stones come alive with the orange highlights. A high quality eternal piece, as if it has always been there, and always will, thank you for posting this gem !~
Phil, I usually wait a few days to reply, but your comment was so touching. I honestly didn’t care for this set, ( too dark), but I wanted to show others the traits I mentioned in my caption. Now however, your sincere comment has given me a new outlook on it. It does have a medieval look to it! And we all know you have an eye for beautiful jewelry, I so appreciate your love on this one, my dear friend!
I especially love to see the backs and the open donut hole findings, the whole of each piece shouts quality, and that quality took time and money to produce. You have such good taste to own this piece. Those large amber stones propel this set into the stratoshere !~
Eileen — Great set. Love the dogtooth prongs — which Sherman used, as well. Why put it away? The correct outfit ... all that is necessary to make these quality beauties shine through spring. D & E did use open backs and unfoiled stones a lot more often than did Sherman, for sure.
I like the colors, romantic, mysterious, and enigmatic. Maybe not California colors, but very Chicago, New York or London. That's my take. Love it!
Hello Eileen and a happy Easter to you too yep the world is certainly a different place hopefully it will subside pretty soon, all is well here hope it is there too stay safe and God Bless
Bill
Hi Eileen - I care for this set LOL. I love those beautiful earth tones.
Beautiful Colors :)
Sorry It took so long to reply...been watching my Grandsons! Now, Saturday morning, my time!
Phil, you already know how I feel about your comments in my jewelry! Thanks for always being in my corner!
Leanne, yes, they did use open backs a lot and unfoiled stones in the later years! I so appreciate your comments, as your collection shows diversity in the love of vintage, so I know you are sincere! Even with a piece I find unappealing, but I will wear in the Fall! Thanks for making me see, along with Phil, that this set is actually prettier than I once thought.
Maureen, thank you for loving this D & E! I have been put in my place. I guess I felt D & E choose too dark of colors for this set, but now I understand the concept. It’s meant to be dark, and so I love it! Thanks for showing me the way!
Hi Bill, always thinking of you, neighbor from the North! Take care, and give Cody a pet from me!
Thank you Mary, Your comments are always so light and funny! Stay healthy neighbor from the South....
Trey, thank you for loving on my jewelry. It is so appreciated.
And thank you for all the loves, dears!
And I just love the autumn earthy colors of this beautiful brooch. The darker stones really adds depht to it.
Very nice set! The colors work so well together!
Elisabethan, your comment is so appreciated. Everyone saw what I failed to see...a beautiful brooch!
