Update - Mystery Solved:
Thanks to TREASUREHUNTER-1, who shared a link to a similar item,
This belt is made of metal mesh - the scales - with the head that clips on as the buckle Clip onto the underside of the head attaches to any part of the hollow body of the snake. DL Auld Co mark (an A with wings) is located on the underside of the snake head identifies this snake mesh belt was made by Demas L. Auld.
The DL Auld Company, founded in 1870, was one of the largest manufacturers of custom jewelry of the early 20th century, the company produced high-end jewelry, mesh purses, fraternity rings, diamonds & mountings. In 1912, the company was hired by Henry Ford to create a name plate emblem for his new Model T vehicle. This led to the company shifting gears to become a manufacturer of automobile emblems and hood ornaments, abandoning its jewelry division in the early 1900's. The company is still in business today, manufacturing for the auto industry.

Fabulous snake belt, the textured head with two red rhinestone eyes is just beautiful and the mesh body very serpentine, I love this!
Hello, it is true that the DL Auld company shifted its focus to automotive plates and emblems in the 1920s, however they did not stop making jewelry/belts - they sold those assets to someone in Indiana. This snake belt/necklace is actually from the 1970s-80s - not the 1920s (as are the majority of the Whiting & Davis ones.) This is why one can always readily find an abundance of these - as well as the Whiting & Davis ones - for sale on ebay, Etsy, etc.
I’m happy to have come across this post. I bought a black belt like this in the late 1980s at a men’s clothing store in Chicago. I loved wearing it but eventually gave it away to a friend who pleaded with me to part with it.
I’ve regretted that and I’ve been looking for another one ever since.
