Miniature revival (1890-1930) portrait of Sophie Potocka (1760-1822) after pastel attributed to Louise-Élisabeth Vigée-Lebrun (1755-1842) from ca. 1785, formerly in Berlin, lost in WWII. Frame of tortoiseshell and bronze in Louis Seize revival style (1850-1890). Frame 12,5 cm x 10,5 cm. SP was born in a poor Greek family in Turkey and sold by her mother. She was famous for her beauty and for having been bought and sold by wealthy men. Last bought by a Polish count, who married her and made her a countess.
