This vase is from Riedel, during the tenure of Josef Riedel, who was the 6th generation of the Riedel glass empire producing quality glass. Josef Riedel (1816-1894) is considered the "Glass King of the Jizera Mountains" in the annals of glass history, and after 250 years, Today, Riedel is still in business producing opulent crystal.

Blown of cased satin glass. Crystal layers sandwiched with a transparent opal white and is UV reactive. The rim is hand tooled with a quatrefoil shape and the vase has a tapered bulbous form. There is two applied handles on each side of the vase that depicts, golden branches. Polished pontil on the low footed base. Signed with a Riedel alpha-numeric mark, C/.529. Circa. 1880's. The design of hand painted art work is of Cactus Wren perched on a thorny branch with surrounding "Beavertail" cacti and "Weeping Willow" branches in vibrant polychrome colours and gold gilt.

7-1/4" tall. Rim is 4-7/8" diameter. Base is 2-3/4" diameter. Handle to handle, 6" wide, at best.

The art on this gorgeous vase is incredible, to say the least. I love the gold accents, they shine beautifully even after well over a century! Magnificent is right!

Thank you, Newfld, Phil and Ms.CrystalShip for the lovely compliments. This is one of the few Riedel vases I've acquired through the years. Riedel truly produced some beautiful hand painted examples. When I found this vase, it came as a "mirrored" pair. The other vase had a missing handle. I'll have to see if I can locate the photo of both of them together. So glad everyone is enjoying the hand painted wren design! Much appreciated. :)
