I’m always on the look out for certain early patents or types of trunks. Here is a neat find that I needed to save from oblivion. An old (rectangular shaped)sole leather traveling trunk that I just picked up for next to nothing. I enjoyed the long 3 hr ride on a nice sunny day. Just got back and took some quick pictures. The interior is in good shape for it’s age. The lock (in need of picking )appears as British made. The exterior needs some definite stabilization of the sole leather. The majority of the older style brass buttons are present . It may be hard to find these cone shaped ones to replace them. Due to it’s age ,this trunk I will just stabilize and leave old and pretty. Although it’s not the trunk I was looking for . It is probably as close to a John Fitzgibbons

For me anyway a trunk is sometimes like that poor little dog that has been abused or neglected and needs a home it hard to say no, I also have bought trunks that have seen better days because I didn't want to let it go to the wayside, believe me Drill, I understand.
Yep Brian, Headed out for another old dog this morning, the kennel is filing up fast gonna need homes for adoption. I'll post it later.

Nice old trunk. I got a Jenny Lind that has similar metal straps held on with the large brass button headed nails, just like yours. Let me know if you find a source for those, mine is missing a few.
Exciting find... just love the road trips getting these gems... the anticipation going and the feel of having in the back on the way home !!
