This 13" art glass figural lizard design is one of the most exciting examples I've ever come across. Have you ever seen anything like it before? I certainly haven't! It's been a few years since I've shared this lizard for discussion. At the time, it was thought to be Bohemian, and the maker was undecided. The earliest design I've seen of any lizard is from Harrach. During the late 1880's, Harrach produced several applied lizard designs for the English market, and this design in no where in comparison. I believe this design came much later. Loetz produced a number of animal and bird shapes from the Art Nouveau movement all the way into the Art Deco era. I would not doubt Kralik had a few designs as well. As it has been and for now, the maker is unknown. Hopefully, when more information can be provided, the mystery can be finally solved.

To give more detail, the body of the lizard is blown of blue and white cased glass with a geometric diamond, overlay optic decor pattern throughout the lizard's body. The mouth is wide open and the body of the lizard is hollow. Every applied detail added to the lizard's body is of colourless glass from the eyes, bony plates, legs and feet. The colourless, applied branch the lizard is holding on to has pinched thorns. As you will see, the colourless, footed base is extremely fancy with a mosaic flower design pattern and applied leaves have been added to secure the weight and stability of this unique one of a kind lizard.

Recently, I posted a green iridescent owl figural vase, and not much is known of the maker as well. Just like this example, there is a few suggestions. I find it interesting the owl and the lizard, have the geometric diamond decor pattern on the body of both examples. This clue does not necessarily link to any particular glasshouses for the simple reason this geometric diamond, optic design pattern was used by more than one Bohemian glasshouse and there's not enough information to be able to differentiate as far as who made what exactly.

Certainly, the perfect pet to take care of. Just add flowers with water and some sunshine!

Thank you, so much for your interest.
