The first of my fine finds from Long Beach. It is a set of 4 Batocera beetles. The larger set is Batocera wallacei a male and female and second set I can't quite read but it is a male and female pair collected in 1969. Says so on the tag.
The largest which is top center is a Batocera wallacei male. There is a penny and a pencil to show scale. The antennae are 12 inches across from tip to tip. See fig. 2. Fig. 3 is the female. This set was collected in 1970. There is also some writing in French under the species name.
It has a nice display case with a removable top. There are loops on the back for wall mounting. A bit tricky as there is one on each corner so I have to get it even and I eyeball everything. I know measure twice but I just go to it.My insect wall is out of space so I am going to have to do some rearranging. We shall see how that goes.
Eek! I hope those love deep in the French forrests and not near Southern US homes!
I have never been able to step on a bug because I fear it might run up my leg....such as one of these fright-inducing creatures might be able to do!
