I found this cloisonné vase some time ago, beautiful workmanship, early 20 Century or older, bulbous shape with a flare rim, applied decoration in brass, stand at 12 inches with 6.50 inches rim, 4.75 inches base, very impressive vase.

Any marks? This looks like Lao Tian Lee workmanship, a famous Republic era craftsman who started his apprenticeship in the Palace cloisonne shop, and later had his own shop in Beijing 1915 or so.
Very valued and collectible, especially made in the form of these ancient types of Chinese pieces.

No marking at the first look, but I will investigate again, the alder lady that gave this to me, will come with the full story surrounding this vase, what I hear, this was a gift to the Shah of Iran, I will keep posting new information, as soon as I got it.

Alain, I did a search last night and found a couple vases with the same type of cloisonne decorations, this is what is called the lotus flower and stem decor, a traditional type of Chinese Buddhist inspired motif.
Even of it is not by Lao Tian Li, it is still a great piece of Chinese cloisonne. Here is one in white:

LaurenRedmond, yes indeed, I totally agree with you, as you see in my glass collection, I love them BIG, LOL, and this beauty is no exception, but like I mention above, my picture of this vase are not so good, but believe me, holding this vase in your hands it's a blessing, when you look closer to some details, I AM BLOW AWAY of such delicate work done by hand.

Yes Karen you right it's a special vase, the alder ladies that gave this to me, mention this was a present to the Shah D 'Iran, I know what you thinking, d'ont buy a story but the piece itself, well if the story is truth, that add to as a bonus.

Yes, cloisonne that is from China, made from a reputable and well known craftsman with great skills, will have many bidders, and end up being very valuable, I have seen this for myself.
I also got reports from owners of these pieces who sold them with good auction houses, and did very well. The difference is in the cloisonne piece itself, proof of age and demonstrating a great skill.

i am not that destructive, and TOD is the better expert, but we can,t make mistakes if the stakes might be to high, concerning value ( see qianlong discussion). end of discussion
In the last 2 weeks I have been aware of more USA auctions with these types of Chinese cloisonne vase lots, and they all did very well.
My reference to Lao Tian Li was as a concrete example of early Republic Chinese cloisonne vases, usually signed. This one is not signed, possibly from the same studio in Beijing by someone else, some of the artistic pieces produced then were for the wealthy tourists who could afford to visit China.
It was a tradition in Europe at that time to do several months long trips, called 'the grand tour', where the end of the adventure would be China or Japan. That is how the high class master cloisonne studios did their business, with their expensive items. It was also possible for these visitors to requests special commission cloisonne pieces that would be shipped later on.

and than is the comparison a non mounted beaker as you read chinese is Qianlong , again its qianlong !!!!!!!!!

Because I respect the poster, I am allowing myself to be judged again, because I wanted him to see what I recently experienced in this category. This is not Qianlong, the ruyie borders are later types of decorations, and the gold finish is still too fresh to be that old.
