D & E, as you all know by now, made many musical instrument figural brooches in the early 60’s.
Anthony DeLizza designed a violin to add to the collection. ( yes, I have one). This little banjo is identical to my purple & fuchsia banjo, with wire-over floret, figure 8’s, and beautiful gold plating. All D & E design traits.
Even the teeny “petals” on the floret are prong set, with 3 tiny prongs, not the usual 4. Though not a huge fan of all AB stones on a piece, this one, I hope you all agree, is lovely!
Circa- 1964-65!
ENJOY!
Lovely and sparkly, indeed, Eileen! I just adore how you have incorporated your cut overlay bowl with your brooches.
All the amazing work on the ab stones with the DIFFERENT coloured ab stones is a stroke of genius in this piece. These banjos are simply the most magnificent !! And the most amazing thing is your insight in your collecting these. The only thing I dislike is that they are not in my collection !!
That aint so ordinary banjo Eileen!
Very sweet! Your band is growing friend :-)
A little late in my response, so sorry! Been busy with Grandchildren, with no school’s opening I’m helping out my Daughter and Husband keeping the children safe and out of child care.( the only bright side is not even a sniffle in the house since February, before that my Daughter should of taken stock in Tylenol)
Thank you for all the loves, dear ones....

Leah, of course you would notice the glass! I have several of these cut to clear vases. My Mother collected cobalt, and these my Father won her at an antiques auction. I don’t post because I know nothing of glass, but these have sentimental value. I try to find a glass piece to match the jewelry piece I’m posting, seems to be working, huh? Thank you, my dear!
Ah, Phil! You always make me feel like I’ve “done good”. My collection will never reach a caliber such as yours., but I’m happy with my D & E! Home from the hospital soon! I bet you can’t wait to be home. I’m hope the flowers and chocolates ( hope the chocolates didn’t get you in trouble) brought a little ray of sunshine to your long hospital stay! It was Leanne who did all the leg work on that one. She is such a dear!
Karen, thank you so much. I really shy away from all AB pieces ( Phil’s influence) but this one was so dainty, I went for it. Plus I collect these musical figurals as you know :)
Mary, yes it is! To date, I have 11 of them. Still missing a few, but in time. Just keep looking!
Glad your trip was a little bit fun, even with all the museums closed. Loved the pictures! Next time we must meet up!
Wow!! The most beautiful banjos I've ever seen!
Thanks Scott. I love collecting the D & E musical figurals.
I now have 11 to date! Fun Fun Fun....
