I recently acquired these glass animals from Japan and I am delighted with them!
The rabbit has been made by Kokoro Yoshii, an artist working in Kanagawa Prefecture, who specialises in cutting glass. This rabbit has been made from a solid piece of purple glass that has been shaped by hand by sawing, cutting and grinding to form the shape. I love it's shape and colour, but particularly enjoy the feel of it. The cutting and grinding marks are quite noticeable to the eye and hand so it has a really tactile quality. I have another very different piece by Yoshii but I'm still trying to get good photos of it.
The other two anteater-like creatures are by artist Yasuke Kita, also from Kanagawa Prefecture. She specialises in pate de verre and that is the technique used to make these. Pate de verre is essentially glass powder mixed with a binder or gum which is then used to form the piece. After being fired in a kiln the piece is solid glass. It is a very time consuming technique and results in pieces which are completely individual. So although these two animals look similar there are small differences in their shape and size, as there is in their bespoke bowls.
The rabbit measures 11cm long, the anteaters 9cm and 7.5cm.

The yellow - green anteater has such an intense colour...does it glow under UV too?

The anteaters look a lot like tapirs actually( I thought that's what they were at first) that rabbit is very cool too, the clear sharp cut ears are so nice!
