This is a large 1" x 7/8" amber ring marked PK.L 925 with a diamond symbol. I think it's from Denmark. As you can see from the pictures it has open back setting but dark when worn. It also has scratches and a few gouges because amber is delicate. You can rub it with olive oil, and it can be polished by an expert. Be careful not to get wet or expose it to perfumes or chemicals. Put amber in a cloth pouch stored separate from other stones. In a drawer away from extreme temperatures. After all - it's resin.
Any comments or ideas about polishing are welcome! Or timeframe. I'm thinking 60's Denmark but not enough research. Thank you!

Beautiful amber ring! It is said the vikings called it "tears of the gods". Here in sweden today it is called "bärnsten". Way back People thought it to have healing powers and that it would protect from evil forces. It was therefore common to have children wear a piece of amber. I can not find the maker and therefore I cant say exactly where it is from. But the style together with the way they write the makersmark makes me think this is likely Danish. Beautiful! I love the simple frame that makes the stone the focus of attention. A lot of amber jewelry comes from Poland but I find they have often more elaborate svettings and I prefer the plane elegance like this ring.
Thank you for your research Elisabeth! Yes, I think Danish because of the simple, clean setting, also because after 2 hours on the internet it seemed to lead to Denmark due to the marks. Wish I could buff and polish it. I'll have to look into the cost to do that.

It's a lovely ring! I love amber. Right now, I am avoiding to wear amber rings because every where I go I have to use hand sanitizer. I have no idea what kind the different places are using, and on more than one occasion it made my amber ring cloudy. I washed my rings with clear water and dried them right away and I believe they are alright. But then, my eyes are not what they used to be.

Thanks Gudrun - great point! Elisabeth also said to be careful of alcohol. I don't wear rings right now.
Probably not wearing rings right now is the best idea! I will keep this in mind.

I need to come over to “the fine side” more often.
I didn’t know that about amber, great info Mary!
And beautiful ring!
Thank you Eileen. Isn't this a gorgeous ring?
