Lucky you........found a fool . These clocks were made in France for over 200 years . The name on the dial is the seller and not the maker . Research comtoise or morbier . Do you have the pendulum or weights ? If not clock parts suppliers sell these parts . There are clues to aid in dating the movement . A good search site is NAWCC.com
Nice, Thank you so much 'slackjack' for the info. No there was no pendulum or weights with it, maybe the reason why it was disposed of. Could be an elder had it and children did not know what to do with it. Not planning on looking for the parts, not sure what I will do with it yet, but won't put it in the trash. lol
The Comtoise Clock has been reunited with missing pendulum & weights. I knocked the door of the house whom disposed of it, and they still had the parts which was given to me. Thank God a million times. Love this piece!
I'm not sure. This story is very hard to believe . Still.............it could happen . The movement looks like it was recently overhauled .
I picked up the Clock... I am the one that can not believe my findings. Could you explain what you mean by 'The movement looks like it was recently overhauled .' This I picked up in my neighbourhood, therefore was not an issue to knock on the door, as I was wondering what to do after knowing the history of this clock, I would of returned it if they wanted it back. Not a bad person that this Clock ended up with, Love.
The movement is very clean and the cords look new. Usually very oily and dusty dirty . Not so with yours .
Fair enough. I did tried to take good pictures and tomorrow will take new ones to show the rust and dirt. It could be that it isn't as old but the name I can not find any information on internet. I am not knowledgeable of these type of comtoise and not looking to pay someone to know more. Thinking to mount brackets on the wall to place it and will be a great piece of discussion how it made it to our home. I appreciate the info you have shared, Thank You.
Hello, a limit of 4 photos, but if a specific close up to the clock or accessories 'is of interest' let me know 'slackjack'.
