This nice old book was printed in 1938 to, as the introduction tells us, fix the problem that all history books end at 1914. The purpose of this one is to provide photos and stories to document the current affairs, events and politics of the last 20 years.

It is written in a quite upbeat and optimistic tone, reflected in the title of the book and definitely seems to suggest the author saw the 1920s and 30s as something of a golden age, even though it does still include things like the great depression and natural disasters.

I like the cover. I also like the way its first and last stories are both about peace, which help to frame the positive spin of the book. Truly the people in 1938 were living in a new era of peace and happiness and soon had a whole new decade to look forward too........

Well I'm not going to be the one to tell them

Sadly it did seem they had a surprise coming. They should have asked Churchill.

That book is a great find, I focus a lot on these 2 decades, because the peace status produced an great atmosphere for new trends, designs, and art, all of which are still celebrated and collected today.

In high school, we studied French history during the middle ages, and we each had to do a presentation in front of the class. Mine was about cardinal Mazarin, a powerful member of the Louis XIII and Louis XIV courts and governments.

My history teacher made the point during my talk, about exactly what I just mentioned, France was at peace at last and all the country's internal affairs benefited. Maybe sometimes it's better not to know the future and the horrible events that will happen. Thanks for posting.
