    Hello,
I found this old Skelton key hanging by my parents backdoor. My parents are both gone now. As long as I can remember it's hung by our backdoor. My mom's sister says my dad always had it hanging there too. I just couldn't throw it away, it obviously meant something to my dad. It's now hanging by my door. We thought maybe it was a house key. They moved into there first house in 1963. My dad also owned a bank in 1970 and it had an old portable vault on wheels. Just looking for to see if there is a way to know if it's a house key or a safe key of some sort. Thanks!

It's 3 1/4 x 7/8. It reminds me of the Corbin keys but it doesn't have a number or writing on it.

It is a replacement key or extra key. No number because it is a blank. Blank keys were cheaper than the name brand keys. They did the same job though. Unmarked keys are common. If it were marked with a name and number a collector might pay a dollar or two for it. Keys don't seem to be as popular now as they were a few years ago. Years ago I bought every key I came across for pocket change. Even duplicates. they are/were cheap and easy to store. I finally got an offer way to good to refuse so my keys are a thing of the past.

Agree. It is a blank. I have hand filed several of these to fit the door locks in my 1883 house. Every room in my house has a surface mounted door lock, including my back door, that uses a key like this. Only the front door doesn't use a key like this.
