Fire Extinguishers
This the rest of my collection of firefighting stuff. I did have some fire grenades but they were still full. I gave them to a friend who was a volunteer firefighter. There's some brass fire extinguishers and a stainless fire extinguisher. I've had these for several years. I didn't pay more than $20 for any of them, so I think my investment paid off. I will never get rich with them but I enjoy them very much. some people would polish them I prefer them in their natural patina.

The first fire extinguisher of which there is any record was patented in England in 1723 by Ambrose Godfrey, a celebrated chemist at that time. It consisted of a cask of fire-extinguishing liquid containing a pewter chamber of gunpowder.
The soda-acid extinguisher was first patented in 1866 by Francois Carlier of France, which mixed a solution of water and sodium bicarbonate with tartaric acid, producing the propellant CO2 gas. A soda-acid extinguisher was patented in the U.S. in 1881 by Almon M. Granger. His extinguisher used the reaction between sodium bicarbonate solution and sulfuric acid to expel pressurized water onto a fire.

Thank you! I do have a diverse collection. I am very visual and collect things that I enjoy looking at. This forum is fun for me because I get to show off my collections and in the process I rediscover why I loved the objects to begin with.

My sister and I are also both inspired by history and stories. So I try to include are any stories or history that I have of each item or items.

I only have a few little 'firefighting' items in my own collection, including a brass extinguisher and a fire grenade (also still full, packed carefully in a box around here somewhere so it won't get inadvertently busticated, thus hazardous?) and an alarm box -- not sure at the moment whether I've ever shown the 1st two, but I think the alarm thingie should be back somewheres in my own list of 'past showings'??

I'm Just your average blue-collar worker. I was never good at saving money or with investments, so I just bought stuff that I thought would hold value over the years. I think I did okay and I still enjoy the stuff.

Thanks Iptools! I love garage and estate sales. And I can appreciate all sorts of different items. Our NOWVI at etsy store is just a way to not keep all the cool stuff we find. I enjoy the information research and learning new things.
This forum great I'm glad I found it. I've already seen several items that I had no idea what they were. But I've also saw a few items that I'd like to start to collect.
Nice collection, I have one old fire extinguisher and one of the guns. The gun was free and just $10 for the extinguisher. Sounds like many here on collectors weekly have the same affliction, and probably most have spouses that just shake their heads whenever something new shows up.
