This crane themed sake set has a tokkuri (flask) which is about 5.5" high and 3" widest diameter and the ochoko (cups) are each about 1.75" high x 2.75" in diameter at the top. This set pressed several of my buttons for things I have been looking for. I don't have any crane themed sake or tea sets. All pieces in the set are hand signed. All pieces in the set are hand painted on all sides. And, finally, the set is small and comes in a hand signed tomobako (wooden storage box). I also don't have a thin porcelain sake set in a tomobako, though I do have a more robust set. The only thing missing is that the tomobako was not made to be tied with a kumihimo (ribbon), though it could still be done and I have some spare ribbon... The seller came down a bit on the price for me, so though I thought I was done for the month, it found a new home. I wasn't sure that I would find a similar deal in the future...

This set is gently used and in fine condition, but I don't think it is very old, based on the condition. Just about like new. No idea which kiln made this set. Maybe Arita?

i love this for esthtic reasons , but also for Confucian reasons ,
1 crane is representing the awe (deference) of father and son
two cranes heading for the sun = aspiration ( civil servant exame)
a crane among clouds = nobility or virtue
one crane in a pine tree is a rather sad story = a craving for a long shared life
and a pair of cranes = speak for a wish for an endless married life ( they never heard of paradise by the dashboard light probably)
