Fritz Heckert Enameled Vase with Flowers and a Beetle, c.1900

I have had this little Heckert vase for a while, and finally took pictures of it today. It has a very precious quality about it that I don't think shows well in my photos. It is only 4” (10.2cm) tall, and is fully signed. I love the shape, and the attention to detail in the enamel work. Such a sweet little beetle! I have come across very similar shapes in antique Chinese vases such as the one in photo 4, and there is no doubt in my mind that Heckert, like other designers during this time, was influenced by the Japonisme movement in Europe that embraced all things from the Far East.
