Finally finished The top comes up to form a pyramid design. We have been collecting for about 14 years, and have only seen one like this .

There is a patent on my page here, which Drill had sent me. In his arsenal I believe I had seen another with just the top X like yours. I will keep checking for it or he may pop up and know where it is. Also if you check your metal body with a magnet you may find that it is a Zinc covering if it doesn't stick, looks like zinc with the bluish hue to it. You may also want to post a photo of the top slat clamp it should have some info on it. https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/274380-1890s-x-slat-barrel-top-trunk--f-egge?in=1169-activity

Im4anythingOld - Interesting, Thank You. I have worked on some others by that trunk maker. I will get a better look at the top hardware tomorrow when I go to my work shop.
I will be adding at least one more posting that I would like to know more about.
      Again, - Thank you!

Heres another one like yours by Trunkman with just the top X. There a bunch of info in the discussion section which you should find interesting. https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/213874-antique-trunk-1880s-x-model
