This is for you Drill, this is my latest MM to my collection, it has the rare wheat embossed tin one that I have been looking for ever sense I saw Trunkmans some years ago, this trunk is big at 38 inches wide I have never seen one this big, I thought 36 inches was the biggest that MM made but I guess not, this was an all hardware off restoration, I had to replace all horizontal wood slats as they were in really bad shape, the back of the trunk was pushed in by something breaking the wood box and leaving two half dollar size holes in the tin, I repaired the box and to remedy the hole problem by adding two additional hinges covering the holes, the lock that was on the trunk was broken from someone prying it open so I replaced it with a nice brass star double lock, all the hardware is polished out not painted, now since gold was a popular color back in the day I assumed the wheat tin would be gold and maybe some were but this one had a silver background with green wheat, thanks for looking.

Hey Brian, It is really nice to see your name back on this board, truly!! You have been missed! This is one beautiful trunk, with the wheat pattern, Love your colors and what you have done with it. The elaborate trunk I posted a while back at 39" is huge, and its funny how a few extra inches can change the whole dynamics of the trunks look & feel in a room. I am sure you can see that now with this beast sitting beside your others..lol. Where do you keep getting these Star locks? Was it on it? Again Stunning!

That Wheat Tin is my absolute favorite metal. It's a monster size a stunner in the room, so I love it. The rest is just ....wow. It's a ton of work to get it looking that good so Thanks you for sharing.

That’s about the prettiest trunk I’ve ever seen!

Thanks Tom, yes it is big, the star lock was added as the original lock was broken off, I found the lock on a trunk just like the trunk that Samkat recently posted, the wood one with the same lock, the only difference was mine had leather straps instead of 1873 latches but the trunk body was the same, got it for 30 bucks, appreciate the comment Tom.

      Brian,

Amazing trunk and a fantastic restore!! I was excited when we talked about how you we’re going to do the wheat tin, and it came out AMAZING!! So glad you finally got a non-alligator tin MM!! Love the star lock — still looking for one for myself. Fantastic trunk — awesome restore, but I wouldn’t expect anything less!

Love it. what can you tell me about the star locks? We have a very old trunk with no identifying marks, but it has a primitiveustar lock....wooden handles and square nails with brass inlays at the tip of the horizontal wooden slats. also do they devalue the trunk?
    28. greendog greendog, 3 months ago
The star lock co. was established around 1836, they made several different trunk locks as well as other trunk parts, the brass double star locks are on the rare side, you don't see them a lot, star made a plain brass double lock and a similar style that has an engraved design which is more rare, on this style of star lock the center star is spring loaded and turns exposing the key hole. Please show pictures of your trunk so we can give you a better idea of what you have, thank you for your comment.

I keep coming back to this amazing looking trunk greendog. I love the wheat tin. You did and outstanding restoration on this and the clever way that you made the repairs is very ingenuitive!!
    36. greendog greendog, 1 month ago
Thank you jscott0363, yeah whatever hit the back of the trunk put two good size holes in the tin and broke the boards, funny thing is the holes were almost the exact same distance from the center hinge so it looks original, probably should have had three anyway being 38 inches, thanks again.
