Picked this up at the Long Beach Flea Market. It is a Ken doll of Barbie fame. This one has flocked hair which puts it at 1961 which is the only year flocked hair Ken was made.
Early Barbie and Ken have a much different quality than the later issues. Ken gets a completely new head and all the boxes are pink. This version of Ken has a mid century look. Looks like he dressed for a beach party at night. Or perhaps to go sailing. Early Barbie and Ken just hung out at the beach. The outfits from this era seemed higher quality. There is a loop for the collar button as seen ibn photo #3.
In the last photo he is with his friend Allan and they are hanging around beach related toys.
They do need to be careful because the GI Joes may have them drafted.
