Ms.Crystal…

You all remember my Coral Pegasus made by KJL? The one that was given to Bettina Von Walhof by Mr. Lane and she was kind enough to part with it?
Imagine my surprise when I found out she had another one! This beauty has a jet black body and is identical to my coral brooch, with encrusted pave set wings and tail. Being over 2 inches in length, these brooches are very heavy. If you look closely you can see how thick the gold setting is. I have seen this piece in jade green, white with gold rs on the wings, but these were not for sale, they were in other collections. These are nearly impossible to find, as once they are in someone’s collection, that is where they stay! Yay for me that I now have two with wonderful provenance!
I remembered Mary’s suggestion to write down where these two wonderful KJL’s came from, as they never saw a store. They went from the man himself to Bettina to me! So I asked her if she would mind writing me a small note as to their provenance! She was more than happy to do so! She wrote it on an article about her. See, she is a jewelry designer too, with a wonderful family history, who were performers in the circus all over Europe. She “had a way with animals”, and starred with Johnny Weismuller in the original TARZAN movies, was on Ed Sullivan and Wild Kingdom! She designs gorgeous animal, and holiday themed brooches, along with her Daughter, Michelle! They also design “one of a kinds!” I feel honored that I have not one but two brooches given to her by Mr. Lane!

ENJOY!
So great to have 2 from Bettina and KJL! Thanks for your research that some items never were meant for retail, but to specific customers. I'm sure that still goes on now. Very special! Love the provenance too.
Fabulous provenance. Very special! So glad they are in your collection!
Fabulous history helps propel this into the stratosphere, great find which you made happen !~
Now this is a collector's story for sure. How neat to be the the 3rd person to own sure wonderful jewelry pieces, but to actually know the 2nd owner -- true envy.
Cool piece! Did you see my redwood burl coffee table i posted? I was thinking about your trip to the redwood forest.

Thank you Mary! Remember it was your idea to write down the provenance! I was just so pleased Bettina Von Walhof agreed. I do believe these were in his New York Showroom, and she was given several pieces by him, so these are out there ( maybe) just very hard to come by! Bettina decided to sell her KJL collection and Michelle gave me a sneak peek at some. WOW, There was a Medusa I had never seen before! But the price was a little up there at 4 figures!
Maureen, I am tickled these are with me too! You would believe I gave the Coral one away to a dear friend? ( or so I thought) That was how much she meant to me. But she returned it out of spite. I guess I should thank her, huh? Now these precious pieces will go to my Daughter someday :)
Thank you for the great comment Phil. It’s always nice to know where a piece comes from, and these, well, pretty special indeed!
Lori, yes, it’s true I am the third to own these. ( and the last, ha!). But to be honest, I do not know Bettina Von Walhof personally! Her Daughter, Michelle, has a shop in Etsy, And we got to messaging one another, and well, you know the story from there...
Dav, thank you for your kind comment, and yes, your table is beautiful! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks Kevin, it’s nice to know the story behind our finds. This certainly was a fun one!
Karen, thanks you so much! Fab is the word!
MrsT. Yes, I do feel so honored to own not one but two of these fantasy horses from the same source, and an incredible source at that!!
UPDATE! Michelle sent me a picture of her family with the Three Stooges, when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show!
Her family history is amazing and she was so kind to share photos with me, also a photo of Bettina at 10 years old! If you haven’t ever looked at their jewelry do yourself a favor and check it out! Stunning pieces, pricey but worth every penny!!!
Thank you clockerman for stopping by and loving my fantasy horses! Very kind of you!
Eileen - please do not think I aimed my comment at you. It just so happened that you responded before me. I apologize if I sounded as though it was your input that I was addressing.
I was included (via email) with the banter earlier between several CW posters that I felt was unwarranted. By the time I got to answer the comments, it had stewed and I let it out. Hopefully the issue is over and we can all once again share. Sorry Eileen if I hurt you, unintentional. I respect your opinions and love your commentary, in fact I look forward them.
Everyone else - please take my comment in the positive way it was intended and let keep posting. Thank you, Lori
