Here's another thing from what's now my (pipe organ) "voicing tools" box, simply because I had it out this morning and it ended up still in my pants pocket right now, thus was handy for the pics. ;-) Shown with a US quarter coin for size reference, it's about 4" long.

It is otherwise what's known as a 'countersink' bit, with its one square/tapered shank end it was obviously intended to be used in a hand crank driven 'brace' sorta drill, to allow flathead wood screws to be drawn down neatly and properly. Turns out, after however many years since it was actually made (I have no idea?) it's also a really good thing for me to use (once in awhile) to do specific things to individual organ pipes (by itself, by hand, no other attachment required) to help them to sound correctly. :-) I also don't recall at the moment where in the world I first got it, but it remains one of those tools in my voicing box I keep a close eye on...if somebody else tries to appropriate it y'all better d*mn well bet I'll go chase it back down again... <LOLOL>

You have an amazing talent to have such a profession!

What a profoundly kind comment WS, thank you so very much. :-)

I do feel somewhat blessed to be able to do what I do for my paychecks. To be able to (help) make a big *machine* live and breathe and "sing"...well yes, that's a pretty special matter of satisfaction. Our current beast-near-completion just made me weep all over the chancel steps one more time for a few minutes, just an hour or so ago, and it ain't even done yet... :-)

Thanks of course to everybody else that tapped your <love it> buttons, too!

You are a special man. Just think of all the innumerable people who have heard and been comforted by or inspired by the music from the pipe organs you maintain! You should be very proud of yourself!

One more astute observation on your part Watchsearcher -- I DO think about all those other random people out there in the world while I do my job, and the comfort I truly hope my work brings to them whether I ever know it or not, and the further thought that (with luck) my work (at least for our own new jobs, if not my tuning/maintenance duties for other instruments) will long outlive me.

Another strangely relevant (?) point is a sideways benefit of this whole covid-virus mess -- good, bad, or otherwise a whole lot more of 'my work' is now making its way to various sorts of online broadcasting than would have ever happened before, such to maybe accidentally touch even more random people out there. That kinda feels good too, amidst all the rest of the chaos... :-)

That is so true! People who fill the pews of certain churches get to enjoy the fruits of your labor....but, thanks to a certain virus, those lovely notes are floating around the airwaves to who-knows-where and recorded to be heard for who-knows-how-long! And, it’s a job you love doing....you can’t beat that!

Floating around the airwaves or the internets or wherever churches might be trying to operate with 'social distancing', but *not* totally lost to anybody, myself included every so often though my partner (or the cat) usually doesn't like it when I plug the comp up to the stereo and shake my own house just a little...I've actually heard from several of my neighbors here that they do kinda enjoy it too, ifn's I don't do it at 3AM that is...? <lol>
