This vase is by respected glass artist Shinichi Muro, and although it is quite different to my other Muro piece it shows his quirky style and glass making ability well.
The main body is from an aqua blue that has been overlaid by gold foil and then ribbed. Using a deep royal blue glass he has added a rim, stepped foot, and four scrolled handles. It all seems a bit over the top but the rich and intense decor of this vase seems pretty well matched by it's extravagant shape. It can actually sit quietly on the shelf but bursts into life with light shone on it or through it.
I think this vase has a very Japanese vibe to it with it's brocade-like surface and it's Meiji period shape.
It measures a nice 24cm (10in) and is signed to the base Shinichi Muro. I am not sure when this was made but am guessing around 2000 as it is not like his recent work.
Gorgeous ribbed vase, the golden brocade pattern is awesome & love the deep blue accents - truly a statement piece
WAY COOL !!!
Hey thanks Jenni!
It is very royal in its own opulent way.
Thanks Kevin, it’s Japanese to it’s soul.
Particularly nice in photo 2, methinks.
It's quite a beauty Karen!
Great piece, Karen. It has a lot going on, which makes it really interesting, and with its height must be an imposing piece in person.
Thanks wow, I didn’t spend much time on photos but it is a vase that looks better with light behind it.
Thanks very much Scott!
It’s interesting Kevin because even though it’s not a small piece it seems small. Maybe because it’s slender? I don’t know but it hasn’t taken over the room yet.
Thanks for the love.
I love the colour and texture of the surface but I'm continually drawn back to the handles.......
I agree Peggy, those quirky handles attract.
Thanks for the love.
MsCrystal will don't have to know about things to know what appeals to us - look at me and jewellery for example!!
Thanks - it was nice to hear about your Mum.
This is just lovely I think a vase full of Pink lily's would set he tone ..but that's me...
Each different variety of lily holds a different meaning. But the most common meaning is purity and fertility. The sweet and innocent beauty of the lily flower has given it the association of fresh life and rebirth.as they say.
