Here's another from my 'coat collection' which I apparently have now. <headdesk> I believe this to be an authentic wool (?) "pea jacket" that would have been 'military issued' at some point in past years, I also don't really know how many years ago that might have been. Its buttons (pic 2) and label (#3) and probably original soldier's name (#4) on its inner lining might help to prove it genuine.
It is not in perfect condition, missing a button or two, one remaining is ripped a bit, inner liner fabric wear, and definitely needing cleaned...I'm probably not terribly likely to have any of those things done/repaired to it, kinda liking it just the way it is...
Nice. I have one in my closet. The are called "pea coats". I was Army, but was once a co-founder of a charitable organization and due to our status were were allowed to buy items from the state Armory, so I picked up an issued but "Like New" one there for $10. They look nice but they are not very warm, even though made of wool. I guess they would be OK in the Fall, but really poor winter coats.
Thank you Kevin for your correction to my title line description, now fixed. Whether it is "warm" or not might not matter for me, both because the climate here doesn't often require it and because I wouldn't wanna risk doing any inadvertent extra damage to it...and I also have plenty of other coats to wear when I need one... <headdesk><lol>
Yes it is a US Navy pea coat for the enlisted men. My Father's Navy Pea Coat is hanging in my closet at this moment. Very happy to have it. I can remember wearing the white 13 button slacks that were part of his dress uniform - Should have keep them too!
Several years ago I met a Sailor from the British Navy wearing his official Pea Coat, now that has style. The collar actually can turn up around the neckline for warmth, and the coat is more tailored to fit the body. (Maybe the sailor himself helped made it look so good to me)

Nice piece of history AO! I believe this one is Kersey wool USN peacoat issued during WWII. I have 7 or 8 peacoats in my collection, ranging from 1942 thru 1968. The Kersey wool peacoats, like yours, were the best in my opinion. The Melton wool peacoats, issued beginning in the 1970's, were lighter weight and weren't as warm as the Kersey wool peacoats and had to be insulated to be as warm as the Kersey wool peacoats. I keep all of mine stored away in a safe place, along with all of my antique mourning suits, to keep the moths from eating them.
