This 2 1-4" silvertone brooch depicts a big leopard type cat with white rhinestone & blue enamel spotted body and two blue eyes, sitting on a 1-2" round blue enamel globe. This is Napier's version of the famous panther brooch owned by the Duchess of Windsor, a 1949 Cartier design of a diamond & sapphire panther sitting on a 152.35 carat star sapphire cabochon that was set in platinum.
This brooch is marked Napier (founded 1915) and is from the 1980s

The blue enamel ball is marvelous for the glittering cat.
Very nice- I love the bright blue stone he's set on, it reminds me of the planet Neptune or something or even the moon, which complete with a cat is a perfectly magic image to have, he's so eye-catching!
So cool on his perch. Some of Wallis's favourite pieces were bought by Elizabeth Taylor after Wallis's death. The Duke and Duchess often had Elizabeth and Richard over to their Paris Mansion and were good friends. I often admired the flamingo pin, an icon in Jewellery that Elizabeth purchased !~
That blue is really pretty, nice combo of colors!

Thanks Scott for your wonderful praise, I am so glad this wildcat piece appealed to you - this style brings back circus memories for me, when the tamer would put one of his big cats over a ball & it would roll the ball around, perhaps the inspiration?
Thank you Karen for your fabulous comment & I agree, the sparkly cat (it is sometimes named a silver jaguar) and its blue accents are so complementary to the large blue ball, which almost looks like a Christmas ornament! This piece also was made in a black spotted cat & black ball, more dramatic maybe but the blue was true to the orig design belonging to the Duchess and besides I prefer the sapphire color
Lauren thank you for the lovely words and magical image of the cat in the planetary heavens, and you are reminding me of having seen a fantastic show by the magicians Siegfried & Roy when they toured NYC, they loved the big cats and their big dramatic finish was a puff of smoke out of which a huge black panther with glittering diamond necklace appeared! They were an amazing duo the likes of which will never be redone due to the danger of working so freely with big cats, there were no tethers on any of them & they even walked down ramps near the audience, which I'll admit was very exciting tho
Thanks Phil for your super comment about Elizabeth Taylor and Wallis Simpson, two ladies who loved their jewels - one of my fave books is Ms Taylor's 'My Love Affair With Jewelry' with so many wondrous photos of her amazing collection. Besides the flamingo, she also purchased Mrs Simpson's three-plume Prince of Wales brooch, I love that one too & have the Trifari Alfred Philippe copy which I posted a couple yrs ago, it's so elegant

Lori thank you for your comment, that is so true he certainly seems to be sitting on top of the world! I think the original with the huge star sapphire cabochon must have been striking, it's so cool that the Duchess of Windsor loved animals I think I would have liked her :)
