I purchased these Balinese dancer bookends online. Of course, I thought they were wood when I purchased them, but they are extremely heavy (5 pounds each) and there is no wood grain. Just a lovely mottled staining over the polished surface. The chip in the corner of the base reveals a material other than wood, possibly a clay as their are tiny air inclusions. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might know what they are made of and if anyone has an idea as to their age.

Thank you. Yes, I have just never seen them not carved of wood. They are of clay or some sort of sandy material. I have no idea as to their date either.
