    Hello everyone!!
Our CW friend "Theonlyone" posted his cast iron pig a few days ago and inspired me to dig out my cast iron piggy bank. This one is from the very early 1900's and has glass eyes. He even has a curly tail as well. I really love this piggy bank. I believe this is his original polychrome paint. He measures 8 1/2" long, 3 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" wide. He weighs just about 4 lbs.

Thanks for stopping in for a look!!!
    Scott

      Phil,
Thanks very much! I don't really collect these, but the glass eyes really drew me to him. He's the only piggy bank in my collection.

      Jenni,
Thanks so very much! I love his natural color and the glass eyes as well. I've seen a few of these over the years and I think this one is in better condition than any I've seen.

He’s a wonderful pig! ( just had a flash-back to Charlotte’s Web). How did the term “Piggy Bank” come to be?
    12. jscott0363 jscott0363, 6 months ago
Lol Eileen! When I originally bought this one, I instantly thought of Charlotte's Web! In regards to the term "Piggy Bank", long ago plates and pots were made from a clay called "Pygg". The original coin banks were made from the same type of clay and referred to as Pygg Banks and eventually the term Piggy Bank came to be. Isn't that cool?
