Yes -- Perhaps I'm cursed with the burden of saving these image's for history , The man on the left will be Andrew Johnson - He was Lincoln's vice president - when Lincoln was assassinated he became the 17th President - they were a set selling online as UNKNOWN IMAGES, The Johnson image rather helped me in identifying the Lincoln image. and against all odds this is my second unknown Lincoln discovery !

As for the year -- thats certainly a hard one -- so far - neither image has shown up- quite young for Johnson from searching known photos -- at this time Lincoln would be a guess,,, research shows Preston Butler was selling Lincolns for a dollar, is known several have disappeared thru the years,,,
Thats a hard one for me-- Lincoln does show some wrinkles above brows -- possible indication of crows feet ??? ----- Johnson,,maybe-- 1845--1847 is only a guess ,,,
Thanks for the positive,,, to date,,, hard for me,,I think the earliest i found for Johnson was like age 39 ,,, he does seem younger in my pict,,, still only my guess. actually I don't think they knew of each other then,,,, still trying to figure out when they came together,,,,, some=one may have had them made up as a set--- I still think the Davis is connected some how,,,perhaps by the photographer himself, Have a great day !
BTW --- Lincoln's mole - is dead on,, jus-sayin ------- 100%
mine are NOT tintypes -- How-ever,, is known that Julian Vannerson of Vannerson and Jones did the image of Davis - and YES he also did Andrew Johnson ! so far it appears the images are connected to Vannerson
After six years of working for Mr. Whitehurst, Mr. Vannerson opened opened his own Washington studio at 426-428 Pennsylvania Avenue, which featured a skylight comprised of 200 feet of glass. In 1856, he was named chief operator and primary agent of James McClees’ studio, located at 308 Pennsylvania Avenue. The successful team of McClees and Vannerson advertised that their gallery offered clientele “not only the best colored, but plain Photographs, Ambrotypes, and Daguerreotypes from Locket to Life Size”
He is believed to have assisted in the opening of Mr. Whitehurst’s Washington, DC studio in 1849.
LOL- you may be lookink at the white speck showing on the left--- his mole shows on the right side viewing photo , as in reverse image ambrotypes---and is below nose line--- you're not even looking in the right place,,,,, ! so quit being 100% pretentious !
Sorry -- picts are not better quality ,, Yes -- is Lincoln,,, these are in a sealed 10k gold case-- similar to a watch bezel - cannot be removed or reviewed on the reverse - to determine exact method of photography - still to be determined !
The ONLY IDENTIFICATION I may be off on is the time-line year , I don't know the exact year and I sort -of told you that 40 times! I don't know - if you're so smart you tell me the year -------- I wasn't there ! My opinion you're quite pretentious -- research that !

OK --- Greetings there Scott. I put on my "nice hat" I suppose I can buy that. My point being -I don't know when the set was assembled,,, if done - it was by some-one that had earlier photos for sure-- Lincoln and Johnson - are younger,, I wish I had better photos,,, I am not real familiar with Daguerreotypes, these do have a slight luster,, Lincoln may have color added-- to lips- cheeks possibly,, as stated- cases's are sealed. I have to think Lincoln is younger than 50 ,,, could he be 45? can't truly answer that ??? I have had no luck- researching the cases's the only other one I found was Davis being the same ! You stated you have seen them in the past ? but no identification !Being that you do not agree with my attribution any-way , any speculation is point-less. to bad you're not holding them in your hands - you may have a different view,
I have been studying Lincoln images for close to ten years--- I am pretty sure I've seen every known image there is ! -- I would like to think this image is the oldest Lincoln image ,, wishful thinking on my part probably - altho they say the oldest is him at 39,,, altho - not sure that I agree with that. -- as for johnson ,,, I am surly not an age guesser person ,,, there not many photos of him,,,,
Very wishful thinking as the photo cannot pre- date 1854.
"altho they say the oldest is him (Lincoln) at 39,,, altho- not sure that I agree with that." Not sure who "they" are?? But I can tell you that the oldest historically accepted image of Lincoln dates from 1846. It shows a 37 or 38 year old Lincoln and is housed in the Library of Congress.
