I found this brooch the other day. I felt the painting was very well done. Often the painting is inferior or the subject overdone. This painting looked well done and was the dog or wild rose. I believe it is 19th century because of that long pin. The dog rose means pleasure and pain in the Language of Flowers. It is also larger than most pins of this type, at 2 and 1/4" tall and 1 and 3/4" wide.

Hi Eileen, you could be right, but this type of painting wasn't so stylish then. Also that super long pin pretty much disappeared from all jewelry after the turn of the century. Perhaps it is from the nineteen teens. The quality of the painting is what tells me this is earlier. That's my best guess:)
