    Greenteaba…
    (1 item)

    Hi there!

My name is Cheyenne and I recently came across this item thrown in the back of a thrift shop. Growing up removed from our families culture I never felt right about leaving these types of things in thrift shops to be mishandled and/or be sold to someone who doesn’t appreciate it or won’t take the time to learn about it. That’s what brings me here! I’m not sure actually which area or which peoples this item came from, however it does have beadwork (since faded to a white colour) and caribou fur still intact along the top of the hollow wooden shaft. It’s been hand carved inside and out however I would love to learn more about this item, and or the name and peoples it came from to help me figure out if this is a piece I should be reuniting with someone! :) thank you!

It isn't Native American, it's constructed basically like a quiver for blow dart arrows, most likely from one of the tribes in Borneo (Iban, or any of the other 300 or so ethnic groups.)

That's a natural chunk of bamboo, with a handle attached by braided rattan, with a little decorative bead and hair embellishment. So that isn't caribou! And it's missing the cap, usually attached by a braided rattan cord.

The other wooden implement I can't see clearly enough to identify. It may be from the same culture, but not directly related to the main piece.

This was probably made as a souvenir copy of a traditional style piece, so it's doubtful anyone wants it back....

Thank you so much! The beaded bits and hair looked so similar to aged and faded things I’ve seen before! This is such a fun piece in that case anyways! I’m so glad you were able to identify because I would have n e v e r known where to start!!
