My mother passed away 2 weeks ago. I was surprised that her sister and my siblings agreed I should have the family diamond ring.

    I've posted about it before:

Pic 1: Ring in a 1930's bakelite box and pictures of my grandparents Marian and Clayton in 1959 two months before I was born.
Pic 2: Their engagement photo 1929. Marian lost her original ring while in Nursing school so her parents used the insurance money (death benefit) from Marian's brother who died in France, 1918. Marian and Clayton were engaged 3 years, saved $300 and lost that when banks failed during Depression, but they got married in 1932. She had her Nursing degree and would work in that field for the rest of her life.
Pic 3: Private Norbert Wilson, beloved son 18 years old, died in France of the Spanish Flu, never saw combat.
Pic 4: A random photo - my oldest sister, Mom, me - 1968. This week I have been with family going through mountains of old photos. I don't remember this one and I am kind of in love with it. My mother had a great life. This past week we laughed a lot.

Scott - thank you, my mom had been hanging on for 2 years in a dementia care home. She was taken care of and many family visits were made. It was a joyful funeral. Going through her possessions was tough and all the photographs! Trying to organize memories. Each sibling and many grandkids got a quilt. Mine was lost for about 72 hours. It was the quilt that was supposed to go on her casket! 3 of us were frantic "where is it, am I to blame??", finally a few days after the funeral we found out another sister had it and didn't even realize.

Oh Mary such a tough time for you. Take care.
I'm glad your mum's funeral was joyous, they should always be a celebration of life although it sometimes seems wrong to smile and laugh at a funeral when grief runs deep.
I love the ring and the story of it's owners. I'm sure you and your family are finding out lots of interesting and eye opening things.

Mary, coming from a huge family, you have all the love of your siblings around you, and your family here on CW. I’m glad to hear that there was a lot of laughter and a “celebration” of life for your Mother. Like I told you I have lost everyone, Brother & Father in a span of 3 months. Before that Mother, Cousins, Husband. It can be overwhelming! Keep all your Brothers and Sisters close, as you are very lucky to have them...Love you dear friend! God Bless....

Having spend this afternoon with my Mother, I can appreciate the special bond you had with your Mother. I am sorry for your loss.
I have learned that if we keep alive the memories of those who pass; it is as if they never really leave. God Bless. Lori

Sorry for your loss. Wonderful family photos.

Your grandmother’s hair in the 1929 photo — In searches for photos of Pauline Pfeiffer and Ernest Hemingway returning to the US and Key West, Florida in 1928, from Paris, she can be seen in the same hairstyle your grandmother has here. In Key West in the thirties, they apparently called the style “Pfeiffer Locks.”

      Very sorry for your loss.

Daisy - thank you for your comment. My grandmother Marian was a young 25 yr old nursing student and in love! in that photo.
