I picked up another batch of estate sale finds.....this stunning set caught my eye! However once i returned home and had some time to inspect...well all of this jewelry must've been packed away for quite some time..lots of patina, so there's that questions of cleaning. I have read sooooo many different methods for costume jewelry it's confusing. Please offer me some advice. Then there's the wonderment of this set. There's def alot going on..especially looking at the earrings...slot of elements and I have never seen a back like this....thus far no indication of markings. The beads are some sort of plastic, see the seams? But they are knotted perfectly in between each and have an unusual swirl/vein of color. I would really appreciate some input! thanks!!! BTW what style would you consider these?

60's or 70's, not top level plastic, probably sold at dime stores - they were never intended as high-end costume, but their charm in use of different colors, shapes and styles (mainly long 32"+) and affordability made them popular in the swinging 60's and 70's. The seamed plastic beads are fused around a cotton thread except for up by the gold closure where they are knotted (tied off). You can clean with a damp t-shirt rag or q-tip with a diluted dish or laundry soap. Don't use harsh amonia product. Also don't dip or get too wet because the cotton thread might disintegrate. Fun! I have few to post for you. :-)

Okay - thanks for taking more pictures. If you could cut anywhere, could you pull off a bead or they all fused together on the string? Picture 3 is not clear and that's the only place I could offer my opinion. I've been collecting plastics for 40 years, I always enjoy seeing something new like your items.

Sorry if I come off bossy. I search old plastics all the time and I have some questions to put out there for other collectors about this.

This style of affordable to all, 60's-70's plastic beads fused to cotton thread, where did these come from? My guess is China. When did the US open up mass imports from China, Nixon after 1972?
