Favourite Sherman Emerald Green & AB Brooch & Earring Set
Another set I forgot to photograph about 7 years ago. This set is of a rare brooch which is not small size but still delicate enough so the stones do not look chunky. I have only seen one similar but with a lot of colours. Very easy to look at, the central emerald green stone is held there and guarded by a barrage of hound's teeth, the ab'ing is of a blue tinge and sets the stones off nicely. Better in person to view this killer.
    All pieces are Signed Sherman.
The piece does almost accurately show a paisley design in jewellery !~ ....H

Another truly mind-blowing set. Phil, I don't know how you do it! The emerald rhinestones are incredibly lustrous. So many delightful dancing facets of green! Delightful and so very glad you shared this with us.

Thank you so much Eileen, I learned something today also. I have seen a pair of earrings that were not much I thought and today received another pair in the mail and they are sensational in comparison to many. An ok buy I would have called it but turned into a great buy as far as the quality !~

Gorgeous emerald pieces, Phil! Now, I'll admit I'm still a comparative newbie, but how (un)common are unfoiled stones in Sherman's work? I had thought they were actually unknown, but clearly I have a lot to learn!
    20. PhilDMorris PhilDMorris, 3 years ago
Thanks rhineisfine. Unfoiled stones could be considered rare too in Sherman's work since he did that mainly on the larger stones and rather few of smaller stones. You have lots to learn as we all do, but as a relative newbie you get a barrage of things to see from the Sherman sites !~ One thing that is constant is the number of pieces that are found daily that even a seasoned collector has something to learn about Sherman every day!~

Also rhineisfine, Sherman made relatively very few pieces where almost every stone's back is not filled in with his rhodium plating. This one is not as rare as where there are more than 4 or 5 stones missing a full backing even if there is plating on all. A lot of sellers think that Sherman used glue instead of full use of prongs only.
The sellers who think that are imbeciles, especially one who soaked his pieces he sold in amonia cleaners which can ruin the foil in the stones backing. He insisted that Sherman used glue a lot and his seller name was something to do with weed. I insisted he come back from his high and smell the roses !
