This vase was part of a bulk lot I bought from Japan and the photos of it were not very clear but I still was intrigued by it.
On arrival I really liked it. It's made from a stunning royal purple glass, thickly cased in clear and worked into a four sided shape with convex sides and a hot worked lip. On each side, at varying heights buttons have been added. The buttons are clear and have a dense gold foil layer over which has been layered more clear glass.
The quality is excellent and it is a beautiful and eye catching piece.
I had never seen this style before but considered it likely Sanyu. I was happy to find another recently still with it's Sanyu label, so yay me!
It's biggish of course, 21cm and around 2kg.
What an amazing thing (as in it looks like it should have another use than just a vase), the buttons remind me of the tone holes on a saxophone.....part of a bulk lot eh Karen can't wait to see more!
BEAUTIFUL VASE !!!
A regal beauty with a fabulous button design, very intriguing & original - Karen your glass collection is ever lovelier
Intriguing from every angle as well as beautiful, Karen. One of your best!
It's a beautiful piece, thanks Bernard.
My life is known as "Japanese Glass In Bulk". Some rubbish, some lovelies, some okays.
Thanks our beautiful Sean xx
Ah Jenni, thanks. I am fortunate, as are many of us, to own some lovely pieces.
I was intrigued when I first saw this hovering in the back of the photo and so happy it is more beautiful than I thought.
It's hit my top 5 for now Peggy but as you know we swing around in our taste.
It's an interesting piece that works so well. Sometimes the Japanese experiments don't work well for our Western taste but this one does. I've not seen prunts done like that before.
Thanks as always.
Gosh! that is!! unusual Karen, I love it, so different!...
