This bowl is 4.5" (12 cm) high x 8.5" (22 cm) in diameter and weighs 3 lbs (1.3 kg). The bottom appears to be hot worked and has a circular ground and polished concave pontil mark in the center. Quite a feat to make a bowl sit so level using that method. Maybe it was not made this way?

I have seen very similar labelled lobed (three lobes pulled up and three lobes pulled down) bowls and vases like this by Chribska but always with a flat ground and polished bottom. The color looks like Chribska to me, but the treatment of the base doesn't look right. I am not at all an expert on Czech glass, though. Do any of you more knowledgeable CWers have an idea of who made this bowl? I bought it as a research opportunity for $4 but can't make up my mind about the maker.

I originally put this in the Bohemia Glass category to attract the attention of the Bohemian glass experts, but have now moved it to the generic Art Glass category.

I don't think it's Czech because of that base and style, and I don't think Japanese either.
      Lovely bowl, don't know who.

Thanks Karen. It is a pretty close copy of Chribska color/style, so maybe by one of their European competitors. Maybe Scandinavian? Aseda did some pretty close copies of Czech glass. There used to good sites with images of the Chribska and Aseda catalogs but my links to their pages are now 404....

The Chribska production that was hot worked at the furnace always has a flat polished base. The Canadian company, Chalet Glass, made a lot of amber and clear glass though I haven't found your actual bowl. The nearest example I found was a basket with an amber centre surrounded by a lot of clear glass. On the other hand I don't know what Chalet bases are like. That said your bowl has lovely optical effects.

Thanks for your comments and efforts sklo42! I haven't been able to find many images of the bases of Chalet pieces, either. About the only conclusion I have come to, now, is that someone copied a Chribska style bowl, but either didn't or couldn't copy the base. The search continues....

Thanks for loving my mysterious counterfeit Chribska bowl Thomas, Kevin, sklo42, BHIFOS, blunderbuss2, apostata and fortapache!
