My first piece of Alton Trevaise. I really love the decor on this and the color scheme. Base glass is opalescent opal glass, with a gold almost (but not quite) Damascene or King Tut style gold pulled decor on the entire body. The bottom has a beautiful pastel green and dark iridescent green pulled chain type of decor. Applied iridescent gold lip on the rim, and the infamous pontil button on the base as is generally the case on most Trevaise glass.
The Alton Mfg. Co. of New York bought the old Sandwich Glassworks, which had closed in 1888. They hired a talented gaffer, James H. Grady, who had worked at Tiffany Studios in Corona, NY, to come to Sandwich, MA, to head a team to produce “High Class Glassware”, to be called Trevaise. Production began sometime in May 1907, but stopped by the end of the year when the glassworks was closed for extensive repairs. Work was supposed to resume after the holidays, but never did. In February, 1908, C.F. King, the president of Alton Mfg. Co. disappeared with the proceeds of the company. He was later arrested and convicted of 27 counts of larceny. The Alton Mfg. Co. permanently closed. Therefore Trevaise glass was only made for a few months, from mid-May, 1907, to the end of the year.

Thanks Shuzbut. Frank was an avid collector and fan of Trevaise glass. My commentary on the article was straight from Phil's post. Unfortunately there's not much info on Trevaise, bits and pieces which generally regurgitate the same bits over and over. The best resource is an article in the Acorn from the Sandwich Glass Museum which published an article on the topic some time ago, but I get the impression that there's more material in their archives and that there's an opportunity for someone to do a deeper dive on them and their work and publish a small book on the topic. Maybe we'll see that one of these days and it'll foster more interest in their work.
Yes The Acorn I see a few on Ruth Webb Lee's work ...I have a list of books on my want list .I ordered a a couple of Tiffany books a few days ago, I'm a fan of Nash and his work I need one on Thomas Webb , Harrach and he go hand in hand as far as I can see . and a few others which help I D them ,History... I need to hit a few glass museum in New England and take a few photo's this summer .. I'm not that far from some....,anyways I like watching your interest in Harrach it helps me with my struggle with some pieces I come across and set on a shelf and wait for someone to post one close to mine which can confirm or make me shake my head ....lol
