    German Shepherd Doorstop

When Dad was alive, we decided to get him a special birthday gift. We bought him a purebred German Shepherd pup and had it fully trained. He named her Galena. Of course being a German Shepherd owner, you end up with dog related items such as this Doorstop. I believe this is late 1990 to early 2000s?

The photo is Galena in her senior years.

    GALENA
The fact that Dad was into Ham Radios and electronics, Galena was an appropriate name.

"A crystal radio receiver, also called a crystal set, is a simple radio receiver, popular in the early days of radio. It uses only the power of the received radio signal to produce sound, needing no external power. It is named for its most important component, a crystal detector, originally made from a piece of crystalline mineral such as galena. This component is now called a diode."

Nice doorstop and beautiful German Shepherd!! We too have a German Shepherd and her name is Rosie. She belonged to one of our sons and when he moved to a new apartment he couldn't take Rosie with him. She's been one of our babies for the last year. She'll be 3 in July.

Thanks Scott. I knew you'd be the first to love it. Growing up we had several different dogs, including Cocoa a purebred albino Shepherd. She was white with a sprinkle of cocoa color down her back. Unfortunately we didn't know that albino Shepherds are prone to leukemia. Everytime I walked her down the street, people would stop and comment how pretty she was.

What a wonderful story - it touched me to tear up. I lost my Bubba, a sherperd mix, several years ago, she was almost 19. thanks for sharing. Lori

That is a wonderful story. We've lost 3 Dachshunds over the last 29 years. I've found that you can teach a German Shepherd to rob a bank if you have enough treats in your pocket:) They're incredibly smart dogs!!!!

One thing I don't miss about German Shepherds is making giant tumble weeds of hair while brushing them in the summer!

My Belgium Malinois don't have that issue. But the trade off is, these guys need constant supervision because they are way too smart! And of course I had to spend almost $5K to extend my chain link fence to 8 feet, because the 5 foot was easily jumped over!
