So I have no idea what this was used for. I’m pretty sure it’s very old but I could be wrong. It is about 5 inches long and an inch wide inch and a half tall. I don’t know the material on the outside but the inside is metal and the base is metal. Thank you so much for any information you can give me on this cool box !

I can’t help you, it’s a interesting box. It looks to me to be Chinese, I hope someone on CW can help you. I’ll be watching this post with interest.
The detail is pathetic, it is that bad. I would think no value to it. No comment other than that, a lot of times even items made in new China are better than this, in this old coin or trinket box.

There are some red letters on the bottom - can you see better in person? The interior looks metal-lined, and the dividers look metal. Maybe something for an opium user? The lid does not appear to lock, though.
It looks like a Betel box. I have one that's far less pretty than yours. Thanks for sharing your treasure!
