Another not so vintage look at California..Michele & Steven took off on another pack-packing ( check out that pack on Steven, about 45-50 lbs!) trip for 5 days, 4 nights.Photo One...Michele with her day pack on top of the summit. See that lake down there, that’s photo two! They hiked up 14,042 feet. Camped, fished ( of course, the golden trout which is California’s official fish, went back in ) and hiked around 15 miles a day! Doesn’t that tent look cozy! So you see, California is not all “ crowded cities and left- wingers” . It’s beautiful wide open space, you just have to go looking for it...right Mary? ( she just got back from a hiking/ road trip too!)
    ENJOY!

From Time To Time I Am In The Northern California/ South Oregon Area. Specifically The Klamath Falls Area, Where On A Clear Day, Mt. Shasta Comes Into View Quite Well.

Beautiful pics Eileen!! Makes me want to head that way and do some hiking and camping myself. Although I'm pretty positive that I could never hike 15 miles a day. Wow, that's a lot of walking. I hope he wasn't carrying that heavy pack on every hike.
One of my nieces recently got married and her and her newlywed husband are hiking the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia for their honeymoon. A six (6) month hike!!!!

How I envy them. I spent a lot of time hiking in the Cascades and Olympics when I lived on the West Coast. You have to have a really well designed and made pack to carry that much weight. I often carried up to 40 lbs on a multi day hike, but a good percentage of that was food, so the pack got lighter every day. I think I have mentioned before that I had a custom made Schoenhofen pack. It carried and distributed the weight so well that a lot of weight was not that noticeable except when climbing.

Vynil, I hear ya! To get away, even for a few days, is good for the soul!

Thomas, Mount Shasta is one beautiful mountain! When Michele saw it coming into view, she took a picture, and sent it to me, caption read, “She is so beautiful”!

Scott, these two can do 15 miles easy! They have done some up to 25! ( no kids with them) When Michele and I went to Sequoia, we did 8 miles, that was enough for me!
What a wonderful honeymoon! 6 months! I told Michele, and she said she has it planned after retirement! Pascale’s “friend” did a trek that took months! So many people are into hiking,, it’s a “way out” you might say, from all the “ hustle and bustle”!

Yes, Kevin, their equipment is top notch. Don’t even ask what their sleeping bags cost!! Complete with bed pads! They could sleep warm and cozy thru a blizzard. Michele says when you are out in the elements you need the best.. check out the cartoon in post 2..that’s my girl!

Yes Dave, many are moving into Oregon too! It’s the politics! Ugh!
I’m staying put as I love California, yes, very expensive to live here, but we don’t have to worry about hurricanes and such. ( earthquakes happen about every 20 years and they are small ) And the weather is perfect year around!

Bill! Lol! That’s the perfect term…nuts! And yes, there are so many beautiful places to see here in California, as you live in one, my northern friend! Only bummer, I read we are back in a drought and fire season is going to be bad. I hate it :(

Thanks again all for the love and support of my not so vintage photos!
