Or is it a "sad iron"? I don't remember the difference offhand, but anyway. This one found inside an old pipe organ where it had probably last functioned as a simple counterweight. As the organ technician it was thus left to me to determine both that it was A) now unnecessary and thus B) 'excess clutter' in a space where clutter shouldn't be -- so I did my proper job and removed it from the area. ;-) :-) ;-0

(that's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

It actually seems to be a kinda fancy old iron with its nicely cast handle and details, the number 6 (or 9?) is its prominent marking on top but oddly enough it weighs just *5* pounds. Under its handle there are also cast-in markings "1 1 1 1 0". (I think, or 0 1 1 1, or maybe the 0 is a different mark???)

    That's all I know about it...? :-)

My Granny also had one which became a doorstop after she got an electric iron. I don’t know what became of it after she and my grandfather downsized…..probably given to a relative.
(And my Granny was a very sweet one, thank goodness!)
