    (147 items)

These are vintage items from my US patriotic collection … for July 4.

    1. This is a Sherman Jewelry, Montreal, Quebec, large pinwheel, 3”, rhodium, red, clear, Montana Blue. I have the matching earrings, bought the set together. I will add the earrings when I locate them. Accent back bunting photo for this is not my photo.

    2. This plane is the Arizona Wing’s Sentimental Journey that saw action in the Pacific at the end of WWII and in the Korean War. The plane was on loan to RAF Bomber Command during WWII. The brooch is likely pewter, and is from my WWII collection.

    3. This is the Sentimental Journey again, on the tarmac in Calgary, Alberta. It was piloted by both an American pilot and a Canadian Navy pilot. The brooch again, is vintage WWII patriot jewelry.

    4. WWII humorous patriotic postcard and Vaseline Bakelite, plastic jewelry — which came into its greatest popularity for women immediately after WWII.

    July 3, 2021.

(Just as an aside: We certainly do need many more people here on CW posting Sherman jewelry, don’t we. One site I belong to sees 7+ new and wonderful items shown every week. I will invite some of my friends to start posting on CW, so we all get to enjoy more Sherman jewelry from various nice vintage Sherman collections in the future. I have an average collection. Some people have phenomenal items.)

Wonderful post I agree. I tried to buy that Mary brooch in picture 3....hmm.... I love your postcard images shared with your jewelry. Very nice!

Daisy, I also agree we need more CW posters! Not just for Sherman, but sharing all their costume jewelry obsessions. I get a bit bummed out when only signed items get comments and loves. How easy is it to just buy signed items? If one has the money, any signed item can be bought. BTW, I don't buy from anyone on CW. I still prefer in person shopping, but in the past 3 years I have done a lot of online buying too....sorry, jut rambling.

Thank you, Jenni. That Sherman set is one of my first Sherman acquisitions. I’ve been wearing the brooch, but not the earrings for a while now. But I’ll find them!

Thank you, valentino97 … Mary. So kind. I bought that brooch in Montana, when I was writing my thesis, which focuses on WWII. Sweet brooch. Somewhat fragile. You’re correct about the need for posters in all categories. I am always interested in seeing new beautiful postings here. In person shopping is delightful. Always surprised by the great discoveries. The City of Calgary, here in Alberta, removed its mask mandate today, so we might see some shows this summer. (The noise you hear is me cheering.) But our international border isn’t open yet.

Of course, all current posters are totally wonderful, too. Don’t want my statement to be misunderstood. :)

Daisy - well, as you can guess I love that Mary brooch. One came up on ebay and I couldn't afford it. That's okay, there is plenty to go around for all of us. Also, about your heart pin. I think that is actually apple juice bakelite with red bakelite. I don't think that old plastics glow like "vaseline" glass glows. Someone might chime in that I am incorrect, and I invite....ha ha ha...the 40 yr collector says "bring it on, buster!" I know a little and baby I can guess the rest - said best by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Geez can anyone spell it right?

valentino97 — Thank you for the information about the heart brooch, Mary. That is great news. Couldn’t have wanted more. I would send you that brooch you like tomorrow if I didn’t use it now and again for work, wasn’t locked into retaining it with what I have done so far. I didn’t think they were rare. I’ve seen a few of them here and there — not online. Never expensive at all. Almost free. I will search for one for you.

I Love your post. The Sherman pinwheel is very unique in those colours.
I have never seen one with that colour combination.

Wait a minute Daisy, you almost sent me the Mary brooch!!! Thank you because I watch for Mary jewelry and this actually doesn't come up often. I guess there are many Mary's who buy this before I find it.

Dawnlady1 — Thank you for your kind comments on this post, and for the recent Loves on many of my posts here. Too kind. The Sherman brooch arrived as part of a collection I bought more than a few years ago, here in Calgary. I search for the irregular giant pinwheels. :)

The olivine and citrine? japanned giant pinwheel in “the book” is here now; it arrived without the affidavit that accompanied it on its first journey … when the buyer I bought it from asked to purchase it and other items from one of the book authors; but I’m totally ok with no affidavit. (p. 197)

valentino97 — We will find you one of these Mary brooches!

Thank you to all for the Loves on this post, which has likely been on top more than its share recently. Thank you.
