I recall there are some folks here that have excellent knowledge in plastic type beads etc..am I correct? I have this interesting necklace that I am curious to learn anything about...if there is in fact anything interesting to learn!! Not a super heavy weight bead and there is some spots/ veining. Thanks!!!!

Hard to say exactly what these are. If they are old 30's bakelite plastic, then they've been restrung which happens often because cotton thread deteriorates. Originally there would have been small disc spacers or small #11-#15 beads between each so that the red beads don't scratch each other and the necklace shapes and lays nicely. Bakelite shows a lighter "dusty" color inside the hole where the beads can't be polished, and I don't see that difference of color. It's possible that this was a "bag o' beads" and I like that it is still a necklace. Lovely pinch shape of beads and red color. Maybe they are really coral? I wish I could see and hold them, I would be more help. :)

It appears as though there were spacers at one time as you can see a faint outline and ever so slight color change and clearly they haven't been rubbing against each other as they are quite pristine from scratches. They are a medium to lightweight, not cold .
