I am pretty happy with this new arrival to me. It is much larger than the photo presents. Just a bit over 3” long. All stones are perfect and the backing is excellent too. Unsigned but retains the original tag. I am aware that a tag can be added so I contacted a friend who has an immense collection and he assured me it is in fact Sherman as he has a few. One of his is signed and two are not.

So the exact same piece came as signed and unsigned ? Is there any reason for this? I have so many unsigned pieces that I am quite certain are from reputable/ valuable and or collectible jewelers and thus far have spent 3 years is never ending and exhausting and YES I APPRECIATE when those with knowledge share it willingly...knowledge is power...and sharing is caring!!

Love, love your new Siam Sherman. Something about Siam …. Those hang tags are so very rare, as well! Great collection addition.

Tharless62, from what I understand the makers of costume jewelry didn’t always put a signature or stamp on their pieces. At that time era, it wasn’t a “thing” to do so. Some did and it was an extra cost. As for Sherman pieces, I believe they were all signed, but not always with a cartouche on the piece. Sometimes with a hang tag, or a card or the display box the pieces came in. Unfortunately those hang tags etc… were discarded. That left us with unsigned pieces. If you are interested in Sherman jewelry specifically, there is a good book available and there is a part about signed vs. unsigned with photos. I know that Juliana jewelry is rarely signed and was sold with hang tags. I am by no means an expert and quite often refer to experts in the costume jewelry groups. I do know that my grandmother was gifted a Pink Sherman set and it was in a Jewels of Elegance by Sherman box. The earrings were signed but the brooch was not.

Hi Daisy1000, Thanks for your love of this brooch. I was so pleased with it and of course a Siam piece as well. Yes, the hang tags are rare and very seldom come to market.

I definitely think its Sherman. Renee says no but she does not know everything thats for sure. She attaches those tags too, but when you get the piece its not attached to the piece even though the piece is a known recognized piece. I got back on facebook today as I was off for 2 months or so with their mistakes made. There really are just so many pieces not signed and some Sherman salesmen I have heard definitely carried around unsigned samples.

Totally agree Phil. Some “experts” just don’t really know it all. I definitely think it is Sherman also. Especially since I know someone who has the identical piece signed. The really helps with verifying a piece.

I recently was speaking with a lady who has a very large collection of Sherman jewelry. She informed me that many of the salesman samples or some pieces for specific stores did not get a signature plaque.
