This is a short wood chair that I recently picked up. I know nothing about it though and would appreciate any information.

Jenn. Welcome to CW. I love the chair but it’s way beyond my knowledge.
Hopefully Somebody here will/should be along shortly to provide more info.
      Good stuff!

In my experience with this type chair they were used for one of two uses or possibly both. First would be a mothers chair, a chair to sit down low in front of the fireplace and breast feed the baby and be warm. Secondly they were used for sitting at the spinning wheel and working.

      Hi, Jennbattles. :-)

It might be a vanity chair. I got a lot of those using "antique wooden low back chair" as my search criteria.

Then again, here's a gorgeous modern take on a wooden low back chair that's described as a dining chair:

To me maybe a maple leaf carved on the back would mean a possible Canadian chair, although otherwise a common motif. Unusual and not what I would expect so a great item.
