I love this recent online purchase 1940's-50's brooch marked Sterling Mexico. It's 1.75". I gave it a gentle clean. Online expert told me it is a common symbol of Aztec or Mixtec Nahuatl tribes - inspired by chamillas or warrior shield designs. I am not sure but I think this is from the silver center of Guerrero, Mexico (Taxco region). The first picture's hint of red is camera refection

      Excellent sterling brooch!
My Mother ( as you know) would concur!

Phil - thank you for your comment. So many styles from Mexico artisans combine Pre-Columbian motifs that later became Art Deco motifs.

Eileen - thank you. I know I would love your Mother. I wish my Mother liked art and vintage as much as I did. She didn't. She loved farm sales - so we have that in common - but had no problem painting the fab buffet or piano a horible 1970's green color. She liked sharing with (anyone!) that I never got married.

This catches my eye every time I scroll by it -- I just LOVE its abstract (?) design pattern, or could it actually be some kind of 'logo', or ????? Yes, I bet it'll be stunning when polished as well...?!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Thank you and Hello AnythingObscure, I tried to find more info about this "logo" (I agree, it means something). I think this is a Zapotec or Mixtec symbol from art and architecture from pre-Columbian Mexico. I hope someone will chime in to help. I love this and I love the other pin/pendants I have from amazing Mexico artisans.
